Introduction to LabelCalc: Top

LabelCalc was developed by FoodCalc.com (www.foodcalc.com). Founded in 2003, FoodCalc's mission and business model centers on supplying small to medium size food manufacturers that are required to meet significant new regulatory and compliance standards in the field of nutrition and nutrient data composition.

Through two years of industry research and through dialog with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), LabelCalc has fully specified an advanced database application which professional users will access by an online membership. In order to develop a superior application LabelCalc was designed and built with attention to food manufacturing only. LabelCalc will remain committed to our Business to Business model.

We provide a unique online solution to food manufacturers where instead of installing a CD or sending ingredients to a 3rd party for analysis, you enter your data through a secure and encrypted connection. The entire application is readily available by logging on to your account anytime anywhere in the world.

The sophisticated web-based application requires neither training nor a manual to study. LabelCalc's application screens are designed with the help from food manufacturers input and guidance. We've worked closely with users and are confident that navigating and customizing your account will be seamless.

LabelCalc remains focused on industry changes and continue to find new ways of transforming regulatory processes into above and beyond solutions to the American Food Industry.

Who owns LabelCalc? Top

Independent ownership by a CA Corporation.  LabelCalc has no connection of any nature with food manufacturers, distributors or retailers.

Can employees of LabelCalc access my account? Top

No. Employees of LabelCalc do not have access to your account or any part of LabelCalc's database. In the event of database modifications there are only 2 people that have access to LabelCalc's database and they are the Senior Database Manager and LabelCalc's owner. What technology does LabelCalc use for its application? Top

LabelCalc's application has been designed using Microsoft development tools and advanced coding languages for secure and robust web delivery.

ASP.NET is used for the interface (front-end) of the application and C# is utilized for the database and server (back-end).  In view of the paramount importance of security, Microsoft Sequel Server (MSSQL 2005) is the platform of choice.

We also use the advanced and guaranteed SSL Technology provided by VeriSign, Inc: www.verisign.com.   93% of Fortune 500 companies rely on VeriSign's SSL Certificates.  The worlds 40 largest banks choose VeriSign SSL.  And 47 of the top 50 e-commerce sites trust VeriSign SSL technology.*

LabelCalc is accessed by monthly subscription membership.  The monthly membership provides full access to the entire LabelCalc system and the benefits it offers for the duration of the plan.   Throughout your membership LabelCalc will be constantly working on how to improve the application and will release new features and enhancements.  Both will reflect the next time a member logs into LabelCalc.  All instructions and Help sections will be updated to provide the best possible support.

The monthly memberships (1 month) provide an administrative roll between a "Master" and "User." The Master account (the person signing up the company) has a separate user interface due to security, ownership rights and transferal of products between Users.  The Master will govern all User Accounts and their linking products.

Am I able to change the size of my Nutrition Facts Panel? Top

Absolutely! The Nutrition Facts Panel is provided to our customers in 1 of two ways:

  1. You can download the Nutrition Facts Panel to your computer.
  2. You can e-mail the Nutrition Facts Panel to a specified e-mail address.

All our Nutrition Facts Panel’s are provided in a camera ready format (Bitmap / .bmp) for easy incorporation onto your packaging.

I cannot find an ingredient in the LabelCalc Database. Top

If LabelCalc does not have a specific ingredient in the database you can add this yourself following these steps.

  • Click the Product Library link on the LabelCalc top toolbar
  • Click the New Ingredient link on the LabelCalc left toolbar to access "Add New Ingredient" Web  page.
  • Enter the Ingredient name, descripion, and nutrient values based on 100 grams.
  • Click the Add Ingredient button.

Now, you may add this ingredient to your product by simply clicking the Display choices button form "My Ingredient Library" search section in the 1. Ingredients page.

How can I process my product as "My Ingredient"? Top

For companies that have similar products (for example, Ice Cream) you can add all the “base ingredients,” save the product to your ingredient library by clicking Save as My Ingredient link on the top menu bar, and by using the My Ingredient search box pull up all these base ingredients under one name for example: Ice Cream Base.

What security does LabelCalc provide for my account and ingredient data? Top

LabelCalc's servers reside in Time Warner Telecom's secure facility where the application is hosted by SBWH.com, a company that has been a leader in secure web hosting for 10 years.  LabelCalc's databases are located on its own dedicated server that is backed up daily and protected by dual firewall and automated patch management.

LabelCalc has been designed with specific producers in mind for ever single user.  We have a secure and mandated protocol that each new and current customer must follow in order to retrieve and log in to their account.  Each account has been encrypted to grant access ONLY if the User Name, Security Question and Password are correct.

If at anytime you suspect fraudulent activity on your account and fear someone shouldn't have access to the company data, LabelCalc has developed an 'Active' and 'Inactive' procedure that will instantly deny access to the User already a member of the company account.

If at anytime you suspect fraudulent activity on your account LabelCalc will work diligently with you and all involved parties to ensure the best results for you and your company.

What procedures have been put in place for Credit Processing? Do you have a secure payment solution? Top

What nutritional data does LabelCalc use? Top

LabelCalc's database is compiled by the latest USDA's Nutrient Database for Standard Reference.

The USDA's Nutrient Data Laboratory is the foundation of most food and nutrition databases in the US, used in food policy, research and nutrition monitoring.  LabelCalc acknowledges and thanks the USDA's hard work and dedication to nutritional research and data compilation throughout the years.

As we continue to provide the latest and accurate nutritional data, LabelCalc will incorporate future datasets and releases for all members.   All members will be automatically notified of the additions by alerts on their customized company Home Page.

What are your recommendations for viewing the application? Top

This web site is best viewed with Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0

Netscape browser 8.0 http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/ is compatible but there will be some out-of-line boxes.

We do not recommend Mozilla/Firefox at this time http://www.mozilla.org.  We will however release a compatible version in the future.

I'm using a Mac and I can't seem to view LabelCalc. Why not? Top

Unfortunately applications on the web are not always compatible with everyone's operating system (OS). LabelCalc will be working on how to resolve the incompatibility between a Mac (Macintosh) and PC (Windows/Microsoft Based).

There is one option for users running the latest Mac operating system called OS X (pronounced OS ten) and that is to download the Safari web browser. You may already have IE (Internet Explorer) or an older version of Safari, but again these 2 browsers will not work due to incompatibility features.

Yes we do, for ingredients that can reasonably be fitting with both conversions.  We also provide conversion assistance for Serving Size and Claims.
