What information do I need to use LabelCalc?

LabelCalc is so simple to use, all you need is your:

  • Product's ingredients, their quantities and unit of measurement
  • The final weight of the product after it's been cooked
  • The 'serving size' - but don't worry if you don't know it, we have a serving size tool that helps you determine the size (CFR guide tool)

Where do you get the data from? Is it government approved?

We work directly with the USDA, who provides the ingredient data from their lab and also with the FDA who provides and determines fact panel regulations. All of the labels generated are FDA compliant formats, so you don't have to work extra to style the labels. The USDA and FDA does not approve or endorse any lab, consultant or provider of nutrition analysis, they just don't have the time. If you've seen this stated anywhere, it is incorrect and misleading.

Do you print the labels?

No. LabelCalc generates your nutrition facts panels as images that download in a very high resolution (300 dpi) bmp file so that it is easily resized. Your ingredient statements will download in a word document so that you can manipulate the text to match your packaging. You can then send your labels to a printing company or print them yourself.

Do I have to use a lab to get my food tested?

Probably not. LabelCalc's database is complied of over 18,000 lab tested ingredients that you are able to access to determine your food’s nutrition profile so that your results are lab quality. The only time that we recommend using a lab is when the ingredients change in chemical structure during processing (i.e. fermentation during brewing, or deamination in cheese making), this does not apply to cooking.

If I get stuck, what do I do?

LabelCalc was designed to be as easy to use as possible so that the process is simple. If you get stuck look for the help buttons at every step of the process to guide you. When you sign up for the unlimited web plan you will have a training session with one of our Registered Dietitians who will explain the process to you and answer any questions you have. And of course, call us with any questions (888) 804-0001.

If I need to talk to someone, what’s the best way?

You have a few options that you can utilize to contact LabelCalc staff:

What if I cannot find an ingredient in the database?

If LabelCalc does not have a specific ingredient in the database you can add this yourself as a new ingredient.

How secure are my recipes? Are the Safe?

Security is our top priority! Every LabelCalc account is as secure as online banking. Each ingredient is encrypted with an indecipherable code that is inaccessible to both our team and outside personnel. If you decide to go with our expert consulting plan and submit your recipes to our staff, please refer to our confidentiality agreement.

Can LabelCalc employees see my recipes or access my account?

Only LabelCalc’s Registered Dietitians and nutrition analysis specialists will have access to your recipes, and only if you chose to go with the expert consulting plan. All staff with access to your recipes will be held under a strict confidentiality agreement, restricting them from sharing or reproducing your recipes. LabelCalc employees do not have access to any accounts. The only people who have access to LaeblCalc’s encrypted database are the owner and senior database manager who only access the database for updates and modifications.

Can other people access my account?

Absolutely not! The only way for anyone to access user accounts is through a secured pass code. Similar to online banking, or web-based credit card transactions, LabelCalc takes the highest security possible to ensure that user information is secured and confidential.

Do you have a confidentiality agreement for my recipes?

Absolutely. Our agreement states that we will not share your recipe information with anyone without your explicit consent. You can read our Confidentiality Agreement by clicking here.

Do you have a secure payment process for using credit cards?

LabelCalc understands and fully identifies with the significance of a secure online payment process. In order to provide you with the up most security LabelCalc uses 2 advanced payment systems both provided by VeriSign, Inc:

We work closely with the Bank and Merchant services to test our application daily and run routine security checks for the confidence of our members.

What browser do you recommend for using with LabelCalc?

Labelcalc can be used with all major browsers: Internet Explorer (version 7.0+), Chrome, Firefox and Safari. We recommend the use of Google's Chrome browser where possible.

Can I use a PC and a Mac to access LabelCalc?

Absolutely! LabelCalc is designed to be both PC and Mac compatible. All you need is internet access.

What nutritional data does LabelCalc use?

LabelCalc’s has been designed by which is compiled by the latest USDA’s Nutrient Database for Standard Reference.

The USDA’s Nutrient Data Laboratory is the foundation of most food and nutrition databases in the US, used in food policy, research and nutrition monitoring. LabelCalc acknowledges and thanks the USDA’s hard work and dedication to nutritional research and data compilation throughout the years.

As we continue to provide the latest and accurate nutritional data, LabelCalc will incorporate future datasets and releases for all members. All members will be automatically notified of the additions by alerts on their customized Home Page.
